The festival is now more geared up than ever before to provide facilities for camper vans, but there are some important points you should note regardless of whether you bring your own vehicle or take advantage of one the companies that offer The Big Chill campervan hire.

A campervan ticket costs £50 (in 2010) and must be purchased in advance to allow access into the campervan fields (GREEN family campervan or standard RED campervan).  When buying tickets you must specify whether you require GREEN family campervan or standard RED campervan field access as this will determine the routing stickers that you are sent and the way that you are directed onsite.  Although only one camper van ticket is required for each campervan, every person staying in the RED campervan field must have a weekend Big Chill ticket and only weekend ticket holders will be permitted to the camper van area.  Every person staying in the GREEN family camper van field must have valid weekend camping ticket (which must include a minimum of 1 child and 1 adult weekend ticket).  No admittance will be given to the family area unless a child with a ticket is present.

Campervans must have ’suitable fitted facilities’, this means the campervan must have purpose-built fitted sleeping facilities and either fitted cooking or washing facilities. Any converted vehicles must clearly be live-in vehicles. This does not mean simply a van with a piece of foam cut to size for a bed, and a bucket for washing! A team of campsite staff and security staff will check that campervans and caravans coming into these fields have bona fide living accommodation. No other vehicles will be let onto these fields under any circumstances – not even late replacement vehicles in the case of a breakdown.  If your vehicle is considered unsuitable for the campervan fields which includes unconverted vans, will not be allowed entry and will be sent to one of the festival car parks – and security patrols will not permit sleeping in any vehicles in these car parks.

Facilities provided in the campervan fields are water; wastewater containers, toilets, and a food trader open 24 hours a day. The fields are surrounded by steel shield fencing and patrolled by security staff. No electricity is provided for field users.  The fields must be cleared by 5pm on the Monday.  Any remaining vehicles will be removed.

You can use an awning, but only manufacturers awnings are acceptable. Camper van must be parked in rows.  Stewards will be on hand in the campervan fields to advise on siting vehicles. It is not possible to reserve a specific area as space is allocated on a first come first served basis. There are some things that you cannot bring: Absolutely no generators are allowed on site, glass, fireworks, audio records, gas canisters over 6kg, portable laser equipment including laser pens.

Glastonbury Festival

Each person entering the camper van area must also be a weekend Festival ticket holder.  The facilities provided in the camper van field are water, waste-water containers, toilets and a food trader open 24 hours a day. No electricity is provided for field users. The camper van fields are surrounded by steel shield fencing and patrolled by security staff.

The only access to the camper van fields is via the Blue Route, along from the A37. A windscreen sticker will be sent to you with your festival ticket, which will permit access to the Pylle Road via the Blue Route, and allow you to park in the camper van fields. Glastonbury are planning to open the camper van fields slightly earlier this year, with access available from the Tuesday afternoon, however, the Festival site itself will still not open until 8am on Wednesday morning.

The Fire Officer will not allow ticket-holders to camp beside camper vans or cars due to the risk of contiguous fire, but it is permitted to camp behind them. You can bring a Winnebago or extra large RV however, for all vehicles longer than 7 meters it will be necessary to purchase two touring camper van tickets, to cover the extra space required.  You can use an awning, but only manufacturers awnings are acceptable. What fun we’ve had hiring out our classic VW Camper Vans since Comfy Campers started in Spring 2008.  After years of vehicle repairs and a love for camper vans and a long Sunday lunch with friends and too much red wine Comfy Campers was born.
